How to Play

  1. Choose Easy, Medium or Hard. The course is 1,200, 1,600 or 2,000 metres long.
  2. Your dog runs at a steady pace by itself. Hold Fast to speed up or Slow to ease off before a tricky section.
  3. Jump hurdles, cones, boxes, fences and rolling barrels, and jump puddles to avoid being slowed down.
  4. Duck under the striped boards marked DUCK and under bees flying at head height.
  5. Touching an obstacle is a mistake: it gets knocked over, your dog stumbles and 2 seconds are added to your time. Clearing one cleanly counts as a perfect.
  6. Cross the finish line to see your time, your rosette and your course points.

Game Tips

  • Running fast shortens your time but also gives you less time to react. Ease off before a cluster of obstacles and speed up on the open stretches.
  • A mistake costs 2 seconds plus the time lost stumbling, which is more than you usually gain by running fast, so clean runs tend to win.
  • Rolling barrels and bees move toward you, so they reach you sooner than a still obstacle at the same distance would. Jump or duck a little earlier for them.
  • Stacked boxes are almost twice as tall as a single box. Hold the jump button for a full-height jump.
  • Puddles are not mistakes, but they slow you down for almost a second. Jumping them keeps your speed up and still counts as a perfect.
  • Hold Duck in the air to land quickly if you jumped too early before a duck board.

About This Game

Dog Obstacle Course is a time trial. There is no game over: every run ends at the finish line, and your result is the time on the clock. Mistakes add to that time instead of ending the run, so the challenge is to be both fast and clean. Your best time for each difficulty is saved in your browser, and lower is better.

The course

Each run builds a new course. It always opens with a short warm-up of a hurdle, a cone, another hurdle, a duck board and a puddle, and then mixes hurdles, cones (sometimes in pairs), boxes, fences, puddles, duck boards, rolling barrels and bees. Stacked boxes appear on Medium and Hard. Harder settings make the course longer, set the obstacles closer together, raise your base speed and make the barrels roll faster.

Rosettes and points

Every course has a target time: 26 seconds on Easy, 33 on Medium and 39 on Hard. A clean run under the target earns a gold rosette. Up to two mistakes within 25 percent of the target earns silver, and anything else earns bronze. Course points start at 1,000, with 50 added for each perfect, 100 taken off for each mistake and 20 added for every second under the target.

Features

  • Fixed-length agility courses with a finish line
  • Pace control: run faster or slow down
  • Jump and duck obstacles, including moving barrels and bees
  • Mistakes add time instead of ending the run
  • Gold, silver and bronze rosettes plus course points

Frequently asked questions

Can I lose in Dog Obstacle Course?

No. Every run reaches the finish line. Mistakes add 2 seconds each to your time, so they cost you places, not the run.

What counts as a perfect?

Getting past an obstacle without touching it. Jumping a puddle cleanly also counts.

Why is my best score a time?

This is a time trial, so the best result is the lowest finishing time, including penalties. It is saved when you cross the finish line.
